TravaCor Review – 12 Facts You Need to Know

TravaCor is a brain supplement that reduces stress and uplifts mood by encouraging the production of serotonin and GABA in the brain. Here is a detailed review of TravaCor and its claims.

Last Updated On: June 23rd, 2022

TravaCor claims to uplift mood and reduces stress by supporting the production of serotonin and GABA in the brain.

The company claims its unique proprietary blend is created using the best of ingredients, which are known to produce a calming effect.

Curious by the claims, our research team set out to find the facts behind this supplement. Read on to discover what we found…

What is TravaCor?

TravaCor is a nootropic stack prepared using potent raw ingredients in a unique blend. It claims to help people suffering from anxiety, restlessness, depression, and sleep irregularities.

TravaCor functions by supporting the inhibitory neurotransmitter system. The intake of the supplement results in a feeling of relaxation and calmness. In addition, TravaCor claims to block glutamate, which leads to an overall feeling of calmness and restfulness.

About Manufacturer

TravaCor is manufactured by Neuroscience Inc. The company was founded in 2000 and is based in Wisconsin, USA. It manufactures a range of products that target neurotransmitter imbalances.

Some of their featured products include:

  • Kaviance OS
  • Calm CP
  • NeuroBiota
  • Focus DL
  • ImmuWell

We found that it’s not accredited by the Better Business Bureau.

Post our research, we found out that the company received a Warning Letter by FDA in April 2019 for one of its supplements- Kaviance Ultra PM- for including an ingredient, Phenibut, that does not fit FDA’s definition of a dietary supplement.  Eventually, the company had to take back the product off-market. It came back with a reformulation renamed as Kaviance OS.

TravaCor Ingredients Analysis

Taurine

It is an amino acid and is known to increase blood flow when taken orally. Although known to be healthful and included in various health supplements and energy drinks, scientific studies backing the claims are limited in nature.

A study by the Journal of Medical Science reports its role as a neurotransmitter. While there are some studies that report its use in treating Diabetes, epilepsy, and cardiovascular diseases, there’s less evidence to suggest its use as a nootropic agent.

Some side-effects include nausea, dizziness, headache, and difficulty walking.

L-Theanine

L-theanine is derived from the leaves of the tea plant. Clinical studies prove this extract to be effective in uplifting the mood, reducing stress and anxiety.

A study published in The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry supports these claims.

5-HTP

A deficiency of serotonin can cause depression, anxiety, and sleep disorders. 5HTP or 5-Hydroxytryptophan is an amino acid produced by the body that can help to produce this essential chemical. Due to this fact, the use of 5-HTP to treat depression has lately become popular.

A study published by the Official Journal of the World Psychiatric Association concludes that linking serotonin levels to depression is not well-founded. Another study published by  Neuropsychiatric Disease & Treatment substantiates the same fact.

More scientific research is required to ascertain the exact relation between the two.

Side-effects of using 5-HTP can include vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. You should practice caution as a high level of this brain chemical can cause 'serotonin symptom'- a life-threatening condition. (1)

Folate

Folate naturally occurs in foods like green leafy vegetables, fruits, mushrooms, meat, etc. Studies show it is possibly beneficial in cases of high blood pressure, depression, and vitiligo.

There’s limited evidence to suggest that Folate helps with any cognitive disease like Alzheimer’s or autism. A study published in Science Direct proves that if pregnant women take folate along with Vit B12, it may have a positive influence on the development of the central nervous system of the fetus. Clinical research proves that folic acid (a synthetic form of folate) may help with depression and age-related cognitive decline. (1)

Vitamin B6 & B12

Vitamin B12, along with Folate, may help with the development of CNS of the fetus.

Vitamin B6 helps in the release of serotonin, a chemical that helps to regulate mood and social behavior.

A study published in The American Journal of Psychiatry indicates that Vit B6 & B12 can help with depression by reducing the level of homocysteine in the body.

Other Vitamins

TravaCor consists of Vitamin C, Magnesium, Selenium, and Zinc that serve as co-factors. These are essential nutrients for the body and do not hold any potential risks when consumed in the recommended dosage.

Are TravaCor Ingredients Safe & Effective?

Serotonin is sometimes known as the happy chemical as it contributes to the overall well-being and happiness. A low level of this neurotransmitter is related to depression and mood disorders.

TravaCor claims to uplift the mood by synthesizing the production of this brain chemical. After taking a look at the ingredients we found that L-Theanine and 5-HTP are effective ingredients that help balance mood and energy.

As regards to Taurine, studies backing its use as a nootropic agent in healthy adults are limited. Few countries have banned this ingredient as some athlete deaths were reported in Europe that have been linked to energy drinks containing taurine and caffeine (1).

When it comes to safety, our first concern is regarding the exact dosage of its key ingredients, which the company has not shared. Consumption of 5-HTP may have some unpleasant side-effects if not taken in the right dose, and it may also affect the other neurotransmitters.   It is recommended to check with a doctor before starting out with this supplement.

When it comes to effectiveness, the supplement may result in temporary benefits, but it does come at the cost of other side-effects.

Some of the common side-effects of the ingredients in question include:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach upset
  • Fatigue
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Racing heart

How to Take TravaCor?

Each bottle of TravaCor contains 120 capsules, and the official website recommends taking 1-3 capsules, one to two times daily. Always take TravaCor on an empty stomach 2-3 hours after a meal or 30 minutes before it.

Does TravaCor Provide 100% BrainPower?

TravaCor formula is designed to reduce anxiety and promote an overall calming effect. Taurine and 5-HTP, though traditionally used to enhance mood, do carry the weight of potential side-effects.

5-HTP can adversely affect other neurotransmitters and can lead to a depletion of dopamine (1) that can aggravate depression. The use of 5-HTP to treat depression is controversial, and its efficacy is considered to be no greater than a placebo effect.

The only well-founded ingredient in the formula that we can strongly advocate for is L-Theanine. However, in the absence of the exact dosage shared by the company, it’s difficult to comment on the efficacy of the complete formula.

We may add that, based on these three ingredients alone, the supplement cannot deliver a promising result for overall brain health.

Customer Reviews

A while back my doctor suggested I try Travacor for night time (sleep& anxiety) and Adrecor for fatigue and maybe stress related depression. So I took both and was feeling very good. Later on I decided to stop for a while and see how I felt. Well, I regret not having these products on hand to help me get through the occasional heavy stress periods that life throws at us. .So Iam back for more travacor and adrecor. The only negatives for these products is that the high amino acid formula seems to make me retain water, ( so reduction or elimination of all salt from your diet is a good idea.) and the price tag is rather high for neuroscience products, although still worth it for its pure formula and lack of unneccesary additives. I failed to mention that I have tried a few other products from Neuroscience and it is just a matter of finding the formula that works "best" for you. I highly recommend any product from neuroscience.

Quest
I have intractable insomnia and serotonin was blunted from a steroid treatment so bought this as adjunctive therapy. It is a stimulant and interferes with sleep and cut my sleep time in half. I noticed that it's a stimulant as soon as I took it. I tried it a second time taking it early in the morning and then again in the afternoon. Again it stimulated me. Got into bed and immediately went into terrifying dream that woke me in minutes. Made me hot. This is 5-HTP. Got almost 4 hours then, waking due to extreme need to urinate. Was sleepness rest of night. If you don't have insomnia and can sleep even though on a stimulant, your sleep may not be disturbed. Some people have coffee late at night and sleep, but it's self-defeating to combine calming and stimulating ingredients in same product. I got my money back. it added to my sleep debt. Strange how hot it made me. This stuff is a hodgepodge called "proprietary" and not studied or regulated. My doctor warned me to be careful when I told him I found something to balance my neurotransmitters. neurologists and psychiatrists don't understand this. Studies by NIH are done on lab animals. Safer to experiment with separate ingredients at a time so you know what's doing what - at least for you.
Breeze
I had lab tests done by NeuroScience after which they and my doctor recommended Travacor before bedtime (as well as 2 other products). The first night I tried it was awful - very little sleep, and what i did get was filled with stressful dreams. I felt awful the next day. I tried it a second night, but added melatonin (which I've used successfully in the past) and a calcium-magnesium supplement. I managed to get to sleep that night, but still felt my heart racing. Woke up with churning thoughts and in such a bad mood that I couldn't stand to be around myself. My kids were grateful to leave for school to get away from me that morning. By mid-afternoon the effect wore off and I could function again. I now have an expensive bottle of pills that I don't dare take.

Conclusion

TravaCor is a nootropic stack created using a unique combination of ingredients. It is designed to promote a calming effect and reduce anxiety.

The bottom-line of our research on this supplement is that the consumption of TravaCor may increase serotonin, but it does so at the cost of adversely affecting the other neurotransmitters. One of the most severe side-effects it can have is the depletion of dopamine that can further lead to depression.

An effective nootropic supplement combines great natural ingredients that are clinically proven to support overall brain health while having minimal or no potential risks. In this case, TravaCor does not effectively add up to be a great nootropic stack.

5.1 Total Score
Not Recommended!

As with any supplement, the dose is the key to ascertain the effect and safety of the product. In this case, Neuroscience does not disclose the exact dosage of its ingredients. This takes away some of the confidence we had in this product. Further, we’d like to add, the ingredient list is not compelling enough to recommend this product to our readers.
