Last Updated On: June 23rd, 2022

Life extensions is a big name in the supplements market. They are known to make innovative health products.

Cognitex Elite Pregnenolone is its latest variant in brain supplements. The company has added a star ingredient ‘Pregnenolone’ in it. With this addition, the brand claims its product works like a charm and offers superior nootropic effects.

To assess how valid the claim is, we did some fact-finding. We got down to basics and studied its ingredients.

Read on to know what we discovered.

What is Cognitex Elite Pregnenolone?

Cognitex Elite Pregnenolone is a brain health supplement that claims to enhance memory and prevent cognitive decline.

The company claims Cognitex Elite Pregnenolone is the most effective product out of its range of brain supplements. Other variants in its portfolio include:

  • Cognitex Basic
  • Cognitex Elite

Cognitex Basic was the first variant and contains only a handful of ingredients. The nootropic benefits of the same are limited.

Then came Cognitex Elite, with the addition of a few potent nootropics.

The company added Pregnenolone in the Elite formula and launched Cognitex Elite Pregnenolone.

Without a doubt, it is the most advanced variant amongst the three.

Cognitex Elite Pregnenolone Ingredients Analysis

Sibelius (Sage extract)

Sage is a common herb across the world. It comes from the mint family.

It is high in several nutrients and antioxidants.

These antioxidants lead to improved brain functions. They can enhance the brain’s defense mechanism and help with neurological disorders (1)

Sage is a promising herb for brain health. But we need more clinical trials to understand its long-term effects.

Aurora Blue (Wildcrafted blueberry complex)

Aurora Blue is a proprietary complex of the Alaska Vaccinium Berry species. Denali Biotech is the company behind this ingredient.

The company claims their product is the world’s most potent berry complex. We did not find any studies that can support this claim!

Blueberries are high in nutrients and antioxidants and are considered a superfood. It may help delay the aging effects on the brain and may help with memory.

A few animals and human studies have shown positive results.(1) (2)

Other than that, we did not find any compelling reason to add this ingredient in a nootropic supplement.

Sensoril (Ashwagandha extract)

Ashwagandha is a known herb used in Ayurveda for the treatment of various ailments.

It helps in relieving stress, increasing energy levels, and improving concentration. (1) (2

Though there are no long-term studies on this herb, in general, Ashwagandha is safe to consume for healthy people.

Pregnant and nursing women and people with autoimmune disease should avoid Ashwagandha.

Phosphatidylserine

Phosphatidylserine is a fatty substance that naturally occurs in the body. It plays a vital role in various bodily functions.

Phosphatidylserine is known to prevent memory loss and age-related mental decline. A study published in Science Direct shows it helps with the formation of short-term memory.

Phosphatidylserine also helps with the consolidation of long-term memory.

Pregnenolone

Pregnenolone is a hormone naturally produced by the body. It acts as a precursor in the production of other hormones like testosterone, progesterone, cortisol, and estrogen.

Proponents believe it protects against age-related cognitive decline.

It’s hard to comment on the safety of pregnenolone due to a lack of research in humans. Since there's not enough awareness on the long-term safety, we advise to use it for a short period.

Some of the side-effects associated with it are insomnia, anxiety, mood change, and headaches. (1)

Uridine-5’-Monophosphate

Uridine is a naturally occurring nucleic acid. It is shown to increase cognitive function in animal studies.

It helps to support essential neurotransmitters in the brain like dopamine and acetylcholine (1). This, in turn, can encourage healthy learning and memory.

Vinpocetine

Vinpocetine is a chemical compound derived from the leaves of Vinca minor plant. Some believe it can increase blood flow in the brain and enhance cognitive functions.

A study reported no benefit of using Vinpocetine for cognitive impairment. More studies are required to assess the use and safety of this compound.

Vinpocetine is banned in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand due to the side-effects reported by its users. It is currently under review by the FDA. Some of the side-effects include nausea, sleep disorder, headache, dizziness.

Are Cognitex Elite Pregnenolone Ingredients Safe & Effective?

There are seven key ingredients in Cognitex Elite Pregnenolone. Of these, we are mostly concerned about the side-effects of Pregnenolone and Vinpocetine.

USADA considers the use of dietary supplements that boost hormones risky. Sadly, Pregnenolone falls under the same category.

Vinpocetine contains many potential side-effects. Due to this fact, it is banned in certain countries.

The rest of the ingredients appear potentially safe.

But does that mean they are useful, too?

The best nootropics in the ingredient list are Ashwagandha and Phosphatidylserine. These two ingredients are a common sight in many brain supplements. They are effective in boosting memory and focus.

But, based on these two ingredients it’s hard to comment if the supplement will be as effective as it proclaims.

In addition, on the official website the company warns people with seizure history not to use this supplement. This creates apprehension in our minds regarding its safety levels.

Some of the common side-effects of the ingredients in question include:

  • Nausea
  • Anxiety
  • Headaches
  • Sleep disorders
  • Insomnia
  • Dizziness
  • Mood shifts

Does Cognitex Elite Pregnenolone Provide 100% BrainPower?

From our analysis, it’s clear that Cognitex is not one of the most effective supplements we have come across. The ingredients are limited both in number and effects.

Many essential nootropics are missing from this formula. These include Lion’s mane mushroom, Bacopa, L-theanine, and L-Tyrosine.

Thus, reaching 100% brain power may not be possible from the use of Cognitex Elite Pregnenolone.

Customers Reviews

I just started taking it so I haven't seen any changes yet. I would like to say that the bottle is oversized for the amount of pills inside. This bottle takes up too much space and is completely the wrong size for the smaller tablets inside.

Sage is fine but rest has no cognitive effect

According to them i have every ailment under the sun and I should be dead. I took the blood panel test several times, after speaking to the doctors and tabulating the cost of all the supplements I had to buy, i decided I would be better of taking a vacation to Vietnam, which i did and i lost weight, felt better and did not have to swallow a dozen tablets. Don't get me wrong i don't mind buying supplements but their magazine comes up with some new crap every month and their supplements are full with fillers and they are not the cheapest. Last of all several years ago they stated Metaformin was bad for health, then they run several pages stating its the best thing since white bread and that even healthy people could benefit from it. Now that was the final nail on the coffin for me, a supplement company promoting a diabetic drug that is far from good.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, there is nothing in the Cognitex Elite Pregnenolone formula that makes us go wow.

The company has used several proprietary or trademarked ingredients. But, we did not find any studies that support these ingredients for the hyped benefits.

In conclusion, the product appears average with decent nootropic benefits.

Not Recommended!

One of the warnings given by the company on its official website states people with a seizure history should not use the supplement. This warning waves a red flag at us. We are not confident to recommend this product as the potential side-effects appear to be many.
