Keynote: Manufacturally added citric acid is associated with repetitive inflammatory reactions.

Ascorbic Acid

Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is an essential daily nutrient that repairs tissues, and a deficiency of it can cause scurvy.

It is also the most important antioxidant of the Central Nervous System. It scavenges reactive oxygen in the neurons. A study proved that it could be used for treating diseases like Parkinson's that causes the patient’s cognitive skills and brain functions to decline gradually.

Keynote: High content of Ascorbic acid causes heartburn, vomiting and abnormal cramps, says Mayo Clinic.

Sodium Bicarbonate

Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) is essentially a salt that is made up of sodium, hydrogen, carbon and oxygen. It appears to be a solid white crystalline powder from which a solution of it and water is used as an antacid to treat indigestion, acidity and heartburn.

Sodium Bicarbonate is used to treat intracranial pressure which is common in traumatic head injuries. According to the American College of Surgeons, sodium bicarbonate is an accessible treatment option to reduce intracranial pressure.

Keynote: Frequent use of sodium bicarbonate is related to mood changes.

Maltodextrin

Maltodextrin is a thickener or filler, often used to increase the volume of processed food items. It also has preserving properties and is added in products to increase their shelf life.

Keynote: Maltodextrin has a high glycemic index and causes a spike in the blood glucose level among diabetic people.

Magnesium Sulfate

Magnesium sulfate is a chemical that occurs naturally in the environment and is used as a ready source of magnesium. It is sometimes directly injected in the blood flow to treat acute nephritis and to prevent seizures.

It is used to prevent cerebral palsy in unborn babies by neuroprotection. The research suggests that the use of magnesium sulfate has the potential to prevent up to 1000 cases of cerebral palsy in the USA alone.

Calcium Carbonate

Calcium carbonate is commonly found in rocks like limestone and calcite. It is also the main component in pearls and the shells of marine animals, eggshell. In medicine, it is used as a calcium supplement or as an antacid.

Calcium is key to brain health. An imbalance in calcium levels in the brain may trigger Alzheimer’s disease.

In neurons, calcium acts as a carrier as well as a messenger. Calcium levels play an important role in apoptosis and neurotransmitter release.

Keynote: Calcium carbonate in the diet may result in memory impairment.

Magnesium Carbonate

Magnesium carbonate is solid white inorganic salt. It is used as a mineral supplement used to treat a deficiency of magnesium in the blood.

Polyvinylpolypyrrolidone

It is a synthetically derived polymer that is used in medicines for dispersing the liquid. It can dissolve easily in water as well as oil.

Guarana Seed Extract

Guarana is a climbing plant, native of the Amazon basin in Brazil. It is a dietary supplement and contains about twice as much caffeine as present in coffee seeds. It has become a staple in many energy drinks for this reason.

Keynote: Guarana extracts can make your anxiety worse, according to WebMD.

Customers Reviews

I initially got introduced to Berocca through my sister bringing it from the Philippines. I find it better to use than coffee if I need clarity and energy at the same time. I've pretty much replaced my pre work morning coffee with a glass of this and it gets me through a pretty hectic day at work. I was a bit skeptical at first since they did mention that the Asian version is made with slightly different ingredients but it works just the same for me.

I'm from Australia, where Berocca is very popular and ingrained in our culture as a default pick me up whenever needed. A few days ago I ran out of the stash I brought from down-under and just today I popped one of these magic pills into a glass of water to set me up on that boost I need… only to find its terribly disgusting! – omg, the taste is just HORRIBLE, absolutely terrible. I mean, what da? – seriously, I have had so many flavors from Au and they are from fair to quite good INCLUDING the orange, yet this one is just horrible. Save yourself the horror and order another… not sure what, just another!

This is what I imagine an energy drink from the 70's would be like if they existed then. Chalky, bitter, citrus pills you put in water and watch fizz. Does it work mmm well I can say it has a mild caffeine effect but not really a pleasant experience consuming. I will chalk this up as a waste of money and will not be adding to my subscription of items to get once a month.
